Spiked Apple Cinnamon Cider

October 01, 2015

Our Apple Cider hot drink mix will warm you up when you’re playing in the cold…but what about when you’re inside, making merry w/friends? We’ve got a formula for that too! You can make this easy cider cocktail with either whiskey or bourbon, as a hot fireside drink or cold cocktail before dinner. The secret is an easy-to-make simple syrup. This recipe makes enough for a healthy batch of cocktails. The excess will store well so long as you use it within the week. The recipe below makes one cocktail, but you can make a pitcher for friends by multiplying the ingredients.

Spiked Apple Cinnamon Cider
For the Spiced Syrup (Makes about 1 1/2 cups)
1 cup (about 8 scoops) Hot Apples + Cinnamon Skratch
2 tbsp. whole cloves, crushed
1 (3-inch) piece fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
1 stick cinnamon
For the Cocktail (makes one serving)
3 oz. apple cider
1 1⁄2 oz. bourbon
1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
Fresh or dried apple slice and/or lemon, to garnish
For the syrup: Boil 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Remove from heat; stir in sugar, cloves, ginger, and cinnamon; let sit for 1 hour. Strain and chill syrup.
For the cocktail: Mix 3⁄4 oz. spiced syrup, cider, bourbon, and juice in a shaker with ice; shake to chill. Rim a martini glass w/Apples + Cinnamon Skratch, then strain cocktail into glass; garnish with apple and lemon wedges.

To make it hot: place your bourbon, simple syrup and juice in a mug. Warm cider and add to mug - stir to combine and serve! (Optional to rim the mug w/Apples + Cinnamon Skratch too!)
