Electrolytes are minerals, like sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, that help your body hold onto fluid, maintain proper muscle function, and keep your nervous system firing. When you sweat, you lose more than just water, you also lose electrolytes, especially sodium. If you don’t replace both, your performance can suffer. Replacing them helps you stay hydrated and perform better, longer.

Our electrolyte profile was developed to match what is in sweat - 400 mg sodium/L, 80 mg potassium/L, 100 mg calcium/L, 80 mg magnesium/L. We include the average amount of electrolytes lost in sweat, especially sodium, so your hydration reflects what your body actually needs. That balance helps your body absorb water faster and makes thirst a better guide during exercise.

A small amount of sugar helps your body absorb fluid faster through something called sodium-glucose co-transport - this helps water and electrolytes move from your gut into your bloodstream more quickly. I’ve been experimenting with a few different high-carb drink mixes to fuel my upcoming 50k. Skratch SHC has easily been my favorite so far, the taste is really balanced and easy to drink, even during longer efforts. With some of the other mixes I’ve tried, the flavor gets old pretty quickly, but this one is mild enough that I don’t get tired of it. It’s been a solid option for keeping the carbs coming in during long runs.

A flavor for every season

In the summer, Strawberry Lemonade is a perfect flavor for the heat, and for me personally, the Orange in the winter reminds me of chocolate oranges from the holidays and mulled anything in the cold. With the ever-versatile Lemon-Lime for any season, and the new Passion Fruit for a different summer treat, I'm always able to pick the perfect flavor, and we haven't even touched on performance! The standard measurement and single packs have the right amount of sodium for 90% of use cases, unlike so many others that are either too little or usually WAY too much (looking at you, LMNT). If you're feeling salty, you can always add more, without increasing intake of many other ingredients you don't want. And to top all that off, it doesn't fizz or foam, allowing such a great blending that it's about the only thing I reach for anymore unless I'm literally needing bicarb.

Great alternative to junky sports drinks

We use Skratch across the board for our electrolyte drinks. Gatorade, Powerade and all the other similar products are such poor quality with a variety of ingredients that don't belong in your body. We use Skratch to support daily workouts and competitions in running, cycling, lifting, triathlon, soccer and lacrosse.

The Hydration drink mix makes a great addition to other fueling and hydration during long workouts. It's got a relatively light flavor, not cloyingly sweet (thank goodness), taste doesn't deteriorate when the ice runs out, and it's got enough salt to keep those cramps at bay.

The taste of the hydration is different then the typical "hydration" drink. The raspberry and lime mixture is great, not too sweet just sweet enough and has a nice tang with the lime combo. Also great to have pieces of fruit in the powder so you know it is made from real fruit!
